Jump in the River - 2019 Tiny Desk Contest - Stacy Fahrion

Jump in the River is an etude featuring 4 against 5 polyrhythms. It begins and ends in Eb Lydian, and is in C minor in between. The title is a phrase I heard recently. It was mentioned in reference to imagining the music is already flowing and you're just joining in, in order to start at the correct tempo. To me, the idea of jumping into flowing waters is a beautiful and multilayered metaphor that applies to overcoming fear and anxiety and not holding yourself back from doing the things you long to do, even if those things scare you. Like entering the Tiny Desk Contest.
